Fire Chief – Stoughton
Thank you to the membership for your support.
The 480th meeting of M.I.F.D.I. will be hosted by the Wayland Fire Department
courtesy of Chief Robert Loomer. Bob Loomer, who is no stranger to MIFDI,
was appointed Chief of Department in Wayland just over one year ago after
serving for many years on the Maynard Fire Department. He is also a long
time instructor at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy. The meeting
will be held in the training room of Wayland's new Public Safety Building,
38 Cochituate Rd. on Wednesday, November 17, 2004.
(NOTE: This is the 3rd
Wednesday to avoid Thanksgiving week).
The training program will focus on joint military-civilian Homeland Security Training for Public Safety personnel. The presentation will be provided by the Massachusetts National Guard courtesy of Colonel Joseph Materia, Director of the Environmental & Readiness Center, and Lieutenant Colonel William Tyminski. As time permits, Chief Loomer will provide our members with a tour of Wayland's unique new facility.
DIRECTIONS:
The Town of Wayland is located in Middlesex County, 18 miles west of
Boston.
From Rt.128 (I 95), take Exit 26 in Waltham (Rt. 20). Follow Rt. 20 west to the 2nd traffic light (aprox 5 miles). This is it same route to the DFS/MFA. Turn right at the lights onto Rt.27/126 and the Wayland Public Safety Building is located on the right. Use the parking lot on the Millbrook Rd. side just past the station. The main entrance is also located on the Millbrook Rd. side.
SCHEDULE:
0900 Coffee & Pastry
1000 Program presentation
1130 Business Meeting & Election of Officers

LUNCH:
Our meeting will adjourn J.J. McKay's Restaurant located at 171 Commonwealth
Rd. (Rt.30) in the Cochituate section of Wayland. The menu has a wide variety
of items including luncheon specials at very reasonable prices and plenty
of free parking. When leaving the Public Safety Complex, turn left and
head south on Rt.27 three traffic lights. Turn left at the 3rd light
onto Rt.30 and take the very first driveway on the right into "Cochituate
Village" and you will see J.J. McKay's. We hope to see everyone there.

Fire Service Emergency Vehicle Safety Initiative report released
The Fire Service Emergency Vehicle Safety Initiative report was recently released. The report focuses on enhancing the safety of firefighters as they respond to and return from emergencies and during highway operations.
The report addresses recommendations developed from this initiative regarding Standards and Standardized Operating Procedures (SOPs); training; technology that could be utilized to enhance emergency vehicle operations safety; as well as the roadway safety operations of firefighters and other emergency responders. It also includes examples of "best practices" from several fire departments throughout the United States, which have developed innovative emergency vehicle safety mitigation techniques and technologies.
The initiative, jointly sponsored by the United States Fire Administration (USFA) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), also supports the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Line of Duty Death (LODD) Prevention Initiative.
